Just five miles west of Downtown Cary, Preston is a secluded neighborhood with large properties and meticulously kept lawns and landscaping. The houses are spread out enough to ensure each property’s privacy, but close enough to build a strong sense of community in the neighborhood. Featuring large water displays, impressive housing and roads, and with a key geographic location, Preston is truly a neighborhood to take pride in.
Where Is It?
Preston is located five miles west of Downtown Cary, just east of I-540. The neighborhood is north of U.S. Highway 64 and a few miles south of RDU International Airport. Davis Drive cuts through part of the neighborhood, giving residents easy access to the surrounding area. High House Road intersects to the south, providing ease in travel to the west or east.
What’s To Do?
Preston features many different water amenities in the lakes and ponds it encompasses. There are several opportunities for waterfront fun and recreation in the neighborhood. Preston Country Club is in the heart of the community, providing residents with access to premier golfing. Additionally, it houses an impressive swimming facility, both for recreation and exercise. The cherry on top of the sundae is the twisting waterslide that gushes down into the recreational pool. For dry fun, Cary Tennis Park is located on the western reaches of the neighborhood and is open to players of all ages. Bond Park sits on the south side of the development and provides residents with a large number of recreational opportunities including hiking, playgrounds, amphitheater, ropes course, and athletic fields. In case of bad weather, there’s indoor entertainment, too. In Park West Village, you can catch the newest movie premier at the Park West 14 movie theatre. As a resident in Preston, there are very few times when you may find yourself without anything to do – whether it’s enjoying the waterfront or getting active.
Shopping and Dining
To the west of the neighborhood, Maynard Crossing provides several shopping and dining opportunities. Included in the storefront are Kroger, Wendy’s, Jet’s Pizza, and Brigs at the Crossing. Just a short walk north is Preston Corners Shopping Center. Bruegger’s Bagels, Mellow Mushroom, and Jersey Mikes Subs are some of the available eateries, while Lowes Foods is a convenient option for grocery shopping. Park West Village sits just a little farther north and provides Preston residents with: Target, T.J. Maxx, Buffalo Wild Wings, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Chili’s, and Earth Fare.
Schools in the Area
Apex High School and West Cary Middle School are both within walking distance of Preston. Farmington Woods Elementary School is just down the street. And, if you have a comment or concern, it’s easy to take it up with the Wake County Public School System Headquarters, which is just a five minute drive away!
