The String Quartet Truck – Monday, June 17, from midnight until: The trend with most cities is food trucks of varying cuisines. String Quartet Truck will travel the streets of New Haven beginning from June 17, 2013. It will traverse the streets of the city, bringing renditions of classical music to the people.
The New Haven Open at Yale – Friday, August 16 to Saturday, August 24: This is where professional tennis players from the world over engage in a week-long tournament. The location? Yale University campus. Various ticketing packages are available for the event.
Billie Ruth Sudduth, A Basket Maker’s Journey – This is a show displaying works by Billie Ruth Sudduth, who is a basket-weaver and the beneficiary of the NC Living Treasure Award 1997. The show begins May 31 and ends July 31, occurring daily.
Cary Downtown Farmers Market: The farmer’s market at Chatham Square in Cary displays local produce and fresh fruits of the season to interested individuals. The event goes on from April to November.
Fairs and Festivals
Maker Faire North Carolina – Saturday, June 15 finds travelers at the NC State Fairgrounds, celebrating the biggest festival of all things made. Interested exhibitors bring in all the projects they have for public display.
This includes everything from Raspberry Pi and Arduino electronic projects to lock picking, 3-D printers and urban homes. The family-friendly festival is designed to inspire.
Independence Day Celebration – Find yourself at the Lake Benson Park in Garner on July 3 between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. The annual celebrations incorporate fun events for the family such as live music from The Central Park Band, yummy delights, children’s adventure zone and more.
Arlie Honeycutt, Miss North Carolina 2012, sings the national anthem in tune with the North Carolina Symphony.
Art and Other
Second Friday Art Walk – This one takes place on the second Friday of each month in Carrboro and Chapel Hill. Over 30 art galleries and other places participate with their extensive art forms. Often, artist openings are conducted.
Raleigh Art Festival – Be ready on July 6 for a cultural exploration of music, art and dining. You can see the tattoo artists, painters, jewelry makers, fashion designers, jazz and blues artists and people from all walks of life accumulating at the cultural melting pot.
Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Festival – Lovers of booze will love visiting the Koka Booth Amphitheatre in Cary on Friday August 2 at 6 p.m. Enthusiasts can opt for a great day of beer sipping, music, cigar smoking and bourbon tasting, not to mention the barbecue. All entrants receive a sampling glass. The best barbecue vendors are present onsite for the hungry visitors. Knowledge seekers can attend seminars at the tasting theater and swing to some live music.
