In an April 25th story reported by the Raleigh News & Observer, the W. Hargett Street/Warehouse District of downtown Raleigh might get a healthy dose of beach sand some time this summer.
According to the story, a viral marketing company emerged earlier this year with a website and on-the-street signage hinting at the prospect of a “pop-up beach”.
The company’s end goal is to take vacant lots in urban environments and turn them into temporary entertainment spaces.
Based on advertising and mock-up drawings, the pop-up beach would include authentic beach sand, wading pools, beach volleyball set ups, a canteen-style restaurant and much more.
Although information regarding an opening date (“hopefully this summer”) are still a little vague, the project’s Facebook and Twitter pages have gained considerable traction in the past few weeks.
